What's The Best Belt For Your Body Proportions?
The right belt highlights a woman's silhouette, is slimming, adds interest, is a great accessory, and can be the perfect piece to transition from your pants to your top. A good quality belt can elevate an inexpensive outfit.
Finding your right belt depends on your body proportions.
If you are long through the torso:
Wider belts break up the space.
Contrasting belts also break up the space if you are wearing a solid color.
If you are short through the torso:
Narrow belts at your natural waist or just below the bust will keep things in proportion. Wide belts will make you look even shorter through the torso.
Try a medium width belt in a darker color just below the bust under a cardigan or jacket, creating an empire waist. The darker color will make your waistline look even smaller.
If you have a very defined waist:
Try a belt in a contrasting color to highlight the waist and for added interest.
If your legs are short:
Wear a belt that is the same color or tonal with your pants or skirt to elongate your legs. Placing a contrasting color or wide belt low on the hips will visually make your legs look shorter and add pounds to the hips.
If your legs are long but you are short through the torso:
Wear your belt in the same tone as your top to elongate the torso.
If you have a very defined waist and narrow hips
Wear a belt over your cardigan or other outerwear for a change of pace.
Mismatching your belt and shoes is fun - just make sure they complement each other. I.e. a skinny belt will look good if you have skinny straps on your shoes.
